Holocaus survivor speaking in Qualicum Beach

92-year-old Max Garcia tells his story

Max Garcia, a 92-year-old Holocaust survivor, will be speaking in Qualicum Beach next Tuesday.

The event will take place at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation.

Garcia’s story is told in his book, Auschwitz, Auschwitz… I Cannot Forget You - As Long as I Remain Alive.

Garcia is a survivor of Auschwitz, Mauthausen, Melk and Ebensee concentration camps.

During his presentation, Garcia will speak about his years hiding from the Nazis, being transferred from camp to camp and being liberated from the Nazis on May 6, 1945.

Garcia was 18 years old when he went into hiding from the Nazis in the Netherlands. That meant no longer being able to wear shoes, only slippers, and no longer being able to go near any window.

Garcia also details his time in Auschwitz, Mauthausen and Ebensee until the American troops liberated the prisoners at the end of the war.

Garcia currently lives in San Francisco where he made his home after the Second World War.
