Fisheries and Oceans Canada has announced sport fishing limits for the Qualicum River.

Released Aug. 9, the announcement gives limits for chinook and pink salmon starting in early August.

For chinook, starting Aug. 1 and continuing to Oct. 15, the daily limit is four salmon for the area of the Qualicum River upstream of the E&N railway bridge to the Horne Lake Dam. However none of the chinook can be more than 62 centimetres in length.

From Oct. 16 to Dec. 31, anglers may keep two chinook of more than 62 centimetres per day.

The same goes for the area upstream of the Big Qualicum Hatchery, approximately 75 metres downstream from the E&N bridge.

For pink salmon, from Aug. 9 to Dec. 31, four can be kept per day with no restriction on size, for the area upstream of the bridge.

Limits for Chum run from Oct. 16 to Nov. 30 are one per day for both Qualicum River areas.

Limits on chinook and coho for the Little Qualicum River are yet to be determined.
