Local artist hosts painting workshop series at The MAC

Meghann Doyle offers courses that may be taken individually or as a group

Do you have a creative itch? Whether you’re a beginner or building up your skills, there’s a heap of informative workshops in the Oceanside area this fall from local artist Meghann Doyle.

Doyle doodles on anything she can find, and only a few things she shouldn’t. From the endless practice, she shares her lighthearted wisdom to anyone who’ll listen. She graduated with honours from UVic with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction in Visual Art.

Doyle paints in traditional oil, and writes and illustrates an independent graphic novel series called End’s Shadow Caste. The first volume, an introduction to a far-away future of our fine island, can be found on Amazon and Kobo.

She offers courses which can be taken individually or together, on now at the MAC in Parksville, including Drawing for Oil Painting (Nov. 1), Practical Oil Painting (Nov. 2), Foundations in Life Drawing (how to draw children – Nov. 9), and Foundations in Life Drawing (how to draw adults – Nov. 16).

Through the Regional District of Nanaimo’s Youth Recreation Program, Doyle is also launching two brand-new courses: Saturday Morning Cartoons is a five-week drawing class for graphic arts, like comics, animation and video games.

Traditional Drawing is a five-week course on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons which will peek into some art history and techniques used by artists like DaVinci, Michelangelo and Matisse.

Her paintings can be found at The Collective, in Qualicum Beach where she also teaches. Registration is still open for her repeat offering, by popular demand, of Wildlife Drawing.

Doyle can be found painting at the TOSH Gift Shop in Qualicum Beach Friday afternoons. Contact her at thatdastardlypen@gmail.com or 250-228-5019 for more information.
