The Kwalikum Secondary School (KSS) grad council and grad parent committee will co-host a bottle drive to raise money for an end-of-year celebration for graduating students.

The bottle drive will take place on Sunday, March 28 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., on school grounds at 266 Village Way in Qualicum Beach.

Dropoffs will be held in the staff parking lot accessible via Condor Close off Village Way. There will be five tables manned by grads and volunteers who will accept donations of beverage cans; beer, liquor and wine bottles; and juice containers (including tetra-packs).

No dairy or milk substitute containers will be accepted. According to Lorelei Birchett, the parent of a graduating student and one of the event’s organizers, the bottle drive will even accept boxed wine containers.

In regards to the end-of-year celebration, planned for June, parents and students are working together with the KSS administration to create a grad experience in line with COVID restrictions. However, given the unpredictability of planning an event during a pandemic, the budget for the event requires flexibility. Extra funds will go towards bursaries for students needing financial support for post-secondary education.

The grad parent committee and student grad council would like to thank everyone who has supported fundraising efforts to date.
