The Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department’s annual cancer fundraiser head shave was a great success.

Organizer Harvey Twidale said they shaved about 25 heads and raised over $2,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society with money still coming in.

Late donations can still be dropped off at the fire hall or mailed to 230 Hobbs Road, Qualicum Beach, V9K 2B2.

“The weather cooperated this year and the car wash was very busy with the firefighters and some of their children joining in,” Twidale reported.

Twidale said that while it didn’t rain, several people didn’t mind getting wet, washing cars.

Perennial cutters Evelyn from Evelyn’s Barber Shop and Cheryle from the Bayside Salon shaved the heads of people from the age of six to 65 including a number of people who just happened by.

Their penny pot took in over $20 in pennies and people enjoyed hot dogs and burgers supplied by Quality Foods and Thrifty Foods.
