The Arrowsmith Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists is excited about a new partnership with The Beach Club Resort.
Each month, one chapter member will have their work in an exhibit in the lobby of the hotel.
When Arthur Wong took over as General Manager of Parksville waterfront resort in November last year, his goal was to get more community groups involved with the resort and to give back to the locals.
Since then he has launched several initiatives to create some goodwill in the community and the art wall is the latest.
“We wanted to work with an organization that was locally based and bring a whole group of artists. We had reached out to a couple of different groups with the plan. At the same time they (Arrowsmith Chapter of Federation of Canadian Artists) approached us and we both connected,” he explained.
He said the exhibition will be ongoing and will provide an opportunity for local artists to show their work to the community.
“Guests who stay with us will now see the depth of talent in the Oceanside area and guests who go the restaurant can see the work and say … ‘Wow, that is what my neighbours are doing.’”
The first featured artist is Sheila Warren, a resident artist at The Old School House and also a member of TOSH 10.
She is exhibiting five of her paintings this month and she also agreed that the stars aligned in a good way to bring her work to the venue.
Her small paintings of beach scenes not only fit in well with the waterfront location of the resort, they are also tailor-made for the display cases.
She admitted that if the request for art work had come two years ago, her paintings wouldn’t have fit.
