Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Parksville has a new pastor.

On Sunday, Sept. 12, the congregation welcomed its new pastor, the Rev. Dr. Stephen Chambers.

‘Pastor Steve,’ as he is known, grew up in Burnaby and graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., in 1989. While serving Lutheran parishes in Alberta in the 1990s, he was encouraged to return to school to become a seminary professor.

After earning a PhD in Biblical studies at Wycliffe College in Toronto, he taught at Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Edmonton for 17 years. The diversity of that ministry suited him perfectly, offering opportunities to serve in a range of administrative positions and travel extensively to teach in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia and to take part in archaeological digs in Israel.

Two years ago, Chambers fulfilled a longstanding desire to return to parish ministry at Grace Lutheran Church in Edmonton. Now, the people of Our Saviour are excited to welcome he and his wife Brenda into their midst. Everyone in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area is invited to join them for Sunday worship at 10 a.m., at 795 Island Highway West (masks strongly recommended).
