To celebrate the start of the new season, Oceanside Track and Field Club is holding a bottle drive to raise funds for the new Oceanside Community Track.

The fundraiser will take place on Sunday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parksville Bottle Depot. Previous bottle drives have raised more than $3,000.

“Previous bottle drives have been a huge success,” said Jane Waite, OTFC president. “We are nearing our Oceanside Community Track Renewal donation goal of $10,000. We are excited to team up with the Ballenas Youth Interact Club to reach and surpass this goal.”

Oceanside Track and Field Club is now registered with the Parksville Recycling Depot so supporters who would like to continue to donate to the new track can give the club’s name when bringing their recycling to the depot.

The club will also accept cash donations for the new track on the day of the bottle drive. Supporters can also make direct donations online via GoFundMe at oceansidecommunitytrack.ca/donate.

Money raised by the club will go toward the cost of upgrading the old Ballenas cinder track to a six-lane, all-season rubberized surface. The cost to build it is $1.2 million and the Oceanside Community Track Committee which oversees the fundraising initiatives are hoping to have the funds in place for construction to begin this year.

The new track season starts on Tuesday, March 29 at Ballenas Secondary. The club has now open registration. Athletes ages nine to 18 can register at: http://www.oceansidetrackfield.ca/
