The 2019 Parksville Volunteer Fire Department food and toy drive was a tremendous success thanks to the generous residents in the Parksville Fire Protection Area.

Over this past weekend, department volunteer members with help from their families and friends, collected 29,500 pounds of food and $34,073.57 in cash.

The single largest donation was organized by the Craig Bay Resident Association with $20,559 in cash donations and 2,300 pounds of food.

PVFD has been conducting the food drive since 1998 with firefighters, honorary members and volunteers going door-to-door to collect non-perishable food for the Salvation Army food bank.

PVFD Chief Marc Norris recognized the many contributions to the weekend.

“On behalf of Parksville Fire, my sincere thanks to the residents of the Parksville Fire Protection Area for your generosity, my thanks to local businesses for your generous contributions to the event and also our members and food drive volunteers who work to make it all happen,” said Norris.

Norris also thanked the organizing committee.

“Captain Mark Adelborg and his team should be extremely proud of the results and the difference their efforts continue to make in our community,” said Norris.
