Dozens of youngsters celebrated Family Day this year by participating in a ‘Happiness Bike Parade’ held by the Parksville Museum.

The Parksville and District Historical Society’s new president, Susan Wismer, said the Monday (Feb. 21) celebration was a huge success.

“Everyone just had a wonderful time,” she said. “We had the Mount Arrowsmith Pipe Band lead the parade. And kids of all ages showed up with decorated bikes and scooters. We’re just so pleased with the success of the event.”

According to Wismer, who marched and played bagpipes alongside the pipe band, there were approximately 60 people in attendance with 40 marching in the parade itself.

The parade was lead through the entrance of the museum grounds and around the courtyard. Each participant received a mystery gift bag full of treats and prizes.

“I just want to give a ‘shout out’ to the volunteers who put together the event. They did an amazing job,” said Wismer.

The whole celebration was planned in only a few weeks by volunteers who wanted to ensure everyone had a good time.

Although the Happiness Bike Parade marked the second Family Day event organized by the museum, it was the first to be celebrated in-person, since last year’s event was held virtually due to COVID-19 regulations on outdoor gatherings.

“We had such success with the parade and people enjoyed it so much that we’re certainly planning to make it an annual event,” said Wismer.
