The third time really was a charm for Parksville’s Save-On-Foods team, which drew a sold-out field of golfers to its annual BC Children’s Hospital benefit golf tournament at Eaglecrest Golf Club Saturday, June 2, 2018.

Colin Dixon, Save-On store manager, said the first two years of the tourney produced 65 and 68 players, respectively.

Turnout for this month’s third annual tourney reached the course limit of 142 golfers.

“So many of the players we’ve had went out and talked about it to their friends, and here we are,” said Dixon. “All the funds go to BC Children’s Hospital.

“Last year we raised about $6,000, so we’re expecting to top that.”

Dixon said the total raised was $7,200.

Dixon credited Save-On department manager Rick White with taking care of the organization of the tournament.

The two were joined at Eaglecrest by fellow staffers Mandy Wass and Cheryl Wright.

Players competed in a team scramble format, with many of the entries comprised of co-workers from area businesses.
