Parksville’s Thrifty Foods helps Salvation Army replenish food bank shelves

Parksville’s Thrifty Foods is hosting a Summer Food Drive to help the Mount Arrowsmith Salvation Army stock its dwindling food bank shelves.

The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 14, at Thrifty Foods, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Salvation Army is asking the community to help Thrifty Foods fill the truck and replenish its dwindling food supplies.

Some of the items the food bank needs: Canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned soup, rice, spaghetti sauce, dry pasta, cereal, peanut butter, jam, honey, sugar, flour, coffee, tea, household cleaning products, laundry soap, toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand soap, body wash, shampoo, diapers, baby food, feminine hygiene products, pet food, grocery gift cards, cash or cheques.

The Salvation Army provides food hampers for anyone in need Monday to Friday at 886 Wembley Rd., Parksville. They also deliver food hampers but appointments are required and criteria is applied.

If you miss this event, the Knights of Columbus Ascension Council 7991 will also be holding a food drive for the Salvation Army on Sept. 4 at the Church of the Ascension from 8 a.m. to noon.

Those wishing to donate can either bring items or cash donations. They can just drive through the parking lot and drop of their donations.
