Moonlight Madness got underway in the downtown area of Qualicum Beach on Thursday night.
Despite the rain, people came out in droves to celebrate the start of the holiday season and the shopping that normally takes place during this time of the year.
Stores were decorated with bright lights and Christmas trees, with some offering some refreshments and goodies for everyone.
The Night Market on Veteran's Way was also opened and had a huge crowd looking for bargains and holiday gift ideas.
Mayor Teunis Westbroek lit up the Christmas tree at Glass Square located near the town hall. Prior to that, there was a performance by members of the Qualicum Beach School of Dance. The Mount Arrowsmith Pipe Band also played some resonant tunes that echoed all over the downtown area..
The Qualicum Beach Fire Department also took part in the madness by decorating its firetruck with bright lights and a myriad of Christmas decorations. For some of the children, having to meet Santa Claus was a big treat taking the opportunity to make their wish for Christmas.
The event was organized by the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce.
