Some visitors to the Island Arts Expo last year peruse the paintings. Organizers have decided to stop hosting the event.

Organizers of the annual Island Arts Expo in Qualicum Bay have decided to stop hosting the event.

Susan Schaefer said the event saw five successful years but she and her partner have decided not to take it on again. In the past the event has seen big names like Robert Bateman and Mark Hobson exhibit and conduct workshops, plus a number of local talented artists.

Instead she and her partner Jeff Shields have expanded the Island Arts Magazine, they are organizing more workshops and she is working on her artwork.

Shaefer said there are now art contests in her magazine and she has started IAM Club, an online directory for artists. Visit www.islandartsmag.ca for more information.
