Awards were given out to members of the Malloomba Boogie Band during a performance Saturday in Coombs, to show appreciation for the contribution they have made to the community, said Doug Calder, with Coombs Community Organization (CCO).

“They have been uplifting local spirits for over 20 years,” he said. “That translates into a happier area and undoubtedly is reflected in everyone who invariably leaves our dances feeling positive and enriched.”

The six-piece band from Port Alberni has been entertaining in the area for over 20 years and consistently draws large audiences, said Calder.

The band includes the alto-sax, tenor-sax, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, blues harp and drums and does covers like The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Van Morrison.
