The annual Parksville Fire Department food and toy drive took place on Nov. 17-18 collected more than 21,000 pounds of food for the Salvation Army.
“The tremendous generosity of our residents resulted in 2012 being an outstanding year,” said Parksville Fire Chief Doug Banks. “My congratulations and thanks to the members, their families and friends who volunteered their weekend to collect for the Salvation Army.”
The Parksville Volunteer Fire Department Association thanks the companies who kindly provided goods or services to make this possible — Quality Foods, Parksville Chrysler, Harris Oceanside Chevrolet, BFI Canada, Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Panago and Chameleons Restaurant.
This year, the residents of Craig Bay Estates organized and collected about 3,000 pounds which was picked up on Sunday by the fire department and delivered to the food bank.
Members of the public may still drop off non-perishable food items and/or new, unwrapped toys at the Parksville Fire Hall or the Salvation Army Food Bank at 886 Wembley Road.
