Qualicum Beach church’s beach cleanup draws more than 30 participants

Event held in celebration of Earth Month

More than 30 people took part in St. Stephen’s United Church’s inaugural beach cleanup in COVID times.

The annual event, held in conjunction with Earth month, was a collaboration between the Qualicum Beach church and the Qualicum Beach Stream Keepers.

Despite the damp day (April 24), the organizers indicated it wasn’t enough to discourage the spirits of 27 adults and five children, who eagerly took part in helping keep the beaches clean.

Small groups worked in their own bubbles and respected COVID-19 social distancing protocols. Tbey walked the beaches from Little Qualicum Estuary to French Creek picking up garbage and debris.
