Qualicum Beach Elementary School’s parent advisory committee is receiving plenty of help as it works toward building a special outdoor shelter at the school playground.
“We have beautiful school grounds, but not many trees so there are few places to go to escape the elements,” said PAC chair Paul Trudeau. “The shelter will be used for students, neighbours and anyone in the community using the grounds for recreation, dog walking and looking to get out of the elements while enjoying our beautiful school grounds. We have had a lot of help from the community, especially Will from Leuco Construction, who donated $10,000 to our cause. As well, we received $1,500 from Berwick Qualicum Beach and support from many businesses and families.

Paul Trudeau noted the construction started last week and the structure should be finished soon.
“I am sure that many people will enjoy this structure, but especially the children and faculty of QBES will enjoy outdoor classroom time and a place to gather outside,” he said. “No matter what the weather brings.”
