Qualicum Beach’s popular Family Day, Beach Day events return for 2022

Organizers in full swing preparing for festivities

It’s official.

After a two-year break, the Town of Qualicum Beach’s popular Family Day and Beach Day events are returning for 2022.

These two community events have been highlights on the town’s calendar for many years, and the dedicated volunteers are back organizing these celebrations with renewed vigor.

“The town has had an unprecedented two years of COVID-19 related restrictions, and now we get to enjoy some community wide fun in our beautiful town once again,” said mayor Brian Wiese. “With the events being held outdoors it provides a good way for many to safely get involved, and we are hoping that the community will come out to enjoy time together again.”

Family Day, in its 44th year and set for May 29, will be themed ‘Qualicum Beach in Bloom’ to celebrate not only the Year of the Garden, but the new season after COVID-19 restrictions have lifted. The day runs from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature all the favourites including a pancake breakfast, street parade and field activities.

“The community is ready to come out of hibernation, and we are excited to be able to create a multi-generational celebration of family,” said Jean Young, chair of the Family Day committee.

Beach Day is in its ninth year. It is set to take place July 17, from 12-4 p.m. Beach Day celebrates the town’s prized waterfront and the community it hosts.

This year the committee is back in full swing, and has a plethora of beach-themed educational activities, along with live entertainment, food and beach fun.

“We are so excited to be back and look forward to seeing everyone out celebrating our beautiful beach as a community,” says Tom Whitfield, chair of the Beach Day committee.
