Errington residents want the Regional District of Nanaimo to preserve Romain Road Community Park, a historical landmark in the area.
Area F (Coombs, Hilliers, Errington, Whiskey Creek, Meadowood) director Leanne Salter wants to make sure that the historical importance of Romaine Road Park be considered when planning future public utilization for the site.
Salter made this motion at the Electoral Area Services Committee meeting on Jan. 14 and it was endorsed for recommendation to the Regional District of Nanaimo board for approval.

The park has a trail that was created by wagon trains that frequently travelled that route and it goes all the way to Port Alberni.
“It still has the wagon trains’ indentations in that park,” said Salter. “So we want to try and maintain that in case of any upgrades or planning that goes on in that particular area that we do leave those trail in place.”
Salter added it is one of the last historic trails that links the region to Port Alberni.
