Return of popular Qualicum Beach Day celebrations set for July 17

Special day features myriad of events, activities

Organizers are excited to see the popular Qualicum Beach Day celebration return.

After being cancelled twice due to COVID-19, the July 17 event will again celebrate the community’s beautiful beach and feature a myriad of special activities.

This will be the ninth Beach Day celebrations and it will have Kwalli Seagull back for the fun and informative event at the town’s waterfront.

All activities are free and run from noon to 4 p.m,. on the grassy area along the waterfront and the long stretch of open beach near the boat ramp. Low tide is at about 1:30 p.m. this year. There will be tents hosting activities, a main stage for live music plus a variety of games and entertainment. Qualicum Beach Day offers a focus on environmental awareness.

This annual event offers plenty of hands-on activities for both young kids and adults alike and is strongly supported by the Town of Qualicum Beach, the local business community plus many local volunteer organizations.

Exciting activities include Seine Netting for Sea Creatures, Deep Bay Marine Touch Tank, Skydiving, Dunk Tank, Kite Building, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Fossils, Giant Bubbles, Sandcastle Building and Mini Putting. A variety of displays are on hand including Shark Dissection, Rock and Gem, Shore Birds, Water Smart, Sidewalk Art, and more.

Performers include the Black Moon Valley Band, Qualicum Beach Pipe Band, Belly Dancing, Rainbow Stew Cloggers and Clowns.

Various organizations are involved including the Save Estuary Land Society, BC Conservation Foundation, North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre, Arrowsmith Naturalists, Streamkeepers, RCMP and more.

A variety of food options will also be available.

Shuttles are being provided to the waterfront event starting at 11:30 a.m. Pickup is at the Berwick Retirement Community on 120 First Ave. W. Parking is nearby.
