SOS starts up new social group for residents ages 25 to 55

Group plans free Throwback Thursday Game Night at SOS Community Services Centre in March 9

By Lissa Alexander

Society of Organized Services (SOS) has started up a new social group to engage residents ages 25-55, otherwise known as generations X, Y and Z.

The group is presenting Throwback Thursday Game Night at the SOS Community Services Centre in Parksville on March 9 from 5 p.m to 9 p.m., complete with retro gaming consoles, big screens, board games, mocktails and snacks. There is no cost for the event.

By forming this group, SOS hopes to promote healthy social lives and interpersonal connections, start conversations and gather information about community interests. While gaming can be a solitary activity, this nostalgic event will make use of couch co-op games, designed to be played and enjoyed by multiple people on the same screen.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Facebook Event Page “SOS XYZ Generations Group – Throwback Thursday Game Night” to show their interest. Capacity will be limited to 50 people. Residents can drop in any time between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Sponsors of the event include Raymond James Qualicum Beach Branch, The Beach Club Resort, Evergreen Hospitality Group and Railyard Games.

SOS has been meeting needs and enriching the lives of local residents for 55 years. The non-profit charity was formed in the Parksville Qualicum Beach region by three local women who were concerned that the needs of local school children were going unmet, and that seniors were going without basic necessities.

Today SOS offers more than 30 programs, free or subsidized, to residents of all ages living in School District 69. More information can be found on the SOS website.
