While welcoming two new volunteer board members at its recent annual general meeting, Society of Organized Services District 69 (SOS) held a moment of silence to honour a past board chair.
“We were sad to announce the passing of Garry Cox,” said Susanna Newton, executive director, in a news release. “Garry was a strong supporter of SOS and our community, and a remarkable person. He will be greatly missed.”
Cox became involved with SOS in 2003 and joined the board in 2004. He served his first tenure of eight years, took a year off, and returned as a director in 2013. He served as board chair for four years and was made an honorary director on his retirement last year, according to the release.

A new board was elected and the society welcomed new directors Karen Corkery and Sally Hamel. Three SOS directors retired: Jo Dunn (three years) Anne Thompson (three years) and Martin Fereday (six years).
SOS honoured staff for years of service milestones: Cheryl Hogan (five years), Jolene Swanson (five years), Paulette Harcourt (10 years), Alice Tulia (10 years) and Gwen Taylor (20 years).
