• Police believed whoever broke into the School District 69 (Qualicum) bus garage knew what they were doing. Once inside the locked yard they siphoned 800 litres of diesel fuel.

 

 • Eleven local players made the trek to Capilano College in North Vancouver and all five Black belts in the mix — a club high — qualified for team B.C. and punched their ticket to the Junior Nationals.

• The Ministry of Education allocated $3.2 million for projects in School District 69, including an addition to Kwalikum Secondary School. The expansion project would have created a total of 150 new student spaces. 

   

20 years ago

  

• Two motorists managed to escape a burning Volkswagon van just seconds before it erupted into a ball of flames in Parksville. 

The pair were driving into town when the van backfired. It did more than that though and the two were forced to make a hasty retreat when the vehicle then exploded into flames.
