After a successful fourth annual Cops for Cancer all-day fundraising event at the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Course and Thalassa Restaurant, organizers are thanking everyone and reminding people they still have almost a month to donate.

“To our staff, thank you for all your hard work, to the families that support us, thank you, to the golf club members that came for breakfast, lunch and dinner — thank you!” Oura Giakoumakis e-mailed The News after the big event last Saturday. The gala affair included everything from breakfast to a casino and dinner served by RCMP members in red serge. It was inspired by Giakoumakis’ nephew’s long, successful battle with cancer.

They raised over $11,500 for the Cops for Cancer sponsored Camp Goodtimes for children with cancer, which Giakoumakis said they’d funded for 28 children before this year’s efforts.

She specifically thanked the Ocean Idlers Car Club of Parksville who held a car show with 75 cars in the parking lot and contributed $3,000 including matching funds themselves.

“It is beyond words what you do for us at this event!”

Donations can be dropped off or called in to Thalassa Restaurant before Sept. 22 at 250-594-1150.
