Communities throughout Vancouver Island are gearing up for Tour de Rock later this year, and Parksville Qualicum Beach is no different.

Allison Roberts with RLC Parks at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park is this year’s local rider. Roberts, who organizes kids programming and oversees the nature houses at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, is the only Parksville Qualicum Beach resident taking part in the tour this year. The team consists of 22 riders from around the Island.

Tour de Rathtrevor is back this year with events on Wednesday, Aug. 1 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park. There will be a bike parade, food, games and more. The event is by donation.

Sunday, Aug. 19 is a bottle drive at the Parksville Bottle and Recycling Depot (611A Alberni Hwy.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If people don’t have a way to get the recyclables to the depot, the organizers can send somebody out to pick them up.

Roberts has also opened an ongoing account at the Parksville bottle depot which will remain open until October. People can ask to have the proceeds put onto the Tour de Rock account.

Ongoing at Rathtrevor park is the open-air movie nights every Tuesday starting at 7 p.m. Sit on benches or bring a chair. Treats and other snacks are available by donation to support Tour de Rock. Everyone is welcome.

For more information on the events, contact local rider Roberts at allisonroberts@rlcparks.ca or 250-228-2554.
