The Kiwanis Club of Parksville Qualicum is looking to raise some money with a ride on a steam train.

The Kiwanis Deluxe Dinner Express takes place sunday, June 24, and looks to take participants from Qualicum Beach out to McLean Mill Historic Park for a steak dinner.

The event will bring ticketholders from Qulicum Beach Civic Centre by bus to Port Alberni Railway Station.

From there, it’s all aboard the Alberni Pacific Railway steam train no. 7 to McLean Historic Park. Along the way, there is wine and cheese sampling, provided by Enrico Wines and Little Qualicum Cheese Works, said Pat Weber with the Qualicum Beach Seniors’ Activity Centre.

Once at the mill, a dinner including salad, salmon, prime rib (including a vegetarian alternative) and deserts takes place, said Weber.

Live music will be provided by the Bruce Feltham Group after dinner, and there is a large dance floor for guests to enjoy themselves.

There will also be tours of the McLean Mill Historic Site available before and after the dinner.

At about 9:30 p.m., guests head back by train and then bus to Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.

Tickets to the event are $125 each, which includes everything but alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, said Weber.

The proceeds from the event will go to Kiwanis projects in Parksville and Qualicum Beach.

Tickets are available through Weber (250-951-1159) at the Qualicum Beach Seniors’ Activity Centre or Peter Tryon (250-752-4152) at the Courtyard Cafe and Patio.
