A Valentine’s Day-themed fundraiser in Bowser is planned for Feb. 11 as efforts continue to support the Flegel family, whose service station business was destroyed by a fire in December.

The event is planned for 7 p.m. at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 211 (7035 Island Hwy W.) and is meant to provide a safe, fun environment for singles to connect, according to organizers Philip Rotstein and Rosanna Pittella.

The night will be packed with fun activities, special drinks, food, live music and icebreakers to get the conversation going.

There will even be a Cupid messenger to help people meet, Pittella added.

“If you want to, you can ask Cupid to walk over to somebody else and deliver a message for you, or a flower for you,” she said. “It’s kind of a way to break the ice.”

Rotstein and Pittella said they have noticed a large demographic of single people in the area, whose options for meeting someone are limited to less than ideal strategies like swiping on dating apps or the bar scene.

Singles and couples of all ages are welcome.
