The Town of Qualicum Beach is much cleaner today.
Close 100 volunteers signed up to take part in Cleanup Day organized by the Rotary Club of Qualicum Beach Sunrise on Friday morning (April 22).
It was a perfect day for the event as it was blessed with sunny skies and mild temperature. It was held in conjunction with Earth Day also coinde as #TrashTag2022 by Rotary International, who promoted it to over 46,000 Rotary Clubs world.

The volunteers included members of the Rotary Club, residents, town officials and politicians and they were all over town picking up garbage from ditches, roadways, the waterfront and parking lots. There was also 19 students from Kwalikum Secondary that came out to help.
“This was the largest gathering we have had in the last nine years of holding this community service event,” said Mike Haas, secretary of Rotary Club Qualicum Beach Sunrise. “Our only break from doing this was 2020-2021, thanks to Covid-19. We were really concerned the weather may not cooperate but were blessed with a stellar sunny day.”
A lot of planning went into pulling this together said Haas, with the town supporting the project every step of the way.
“They provided the garbage bags, safety vests, pick-up sticks, promotional material and of course copious amounts of coffee and cookies and immediately after the event, they were out picking up the bags left by the volunteers.” said Haas.
