The Peoples Drug Mart Walk for ALS is taking place in Parksville June 8 starting at city hall.
The funds raised will help support people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, through the ALS Society of B.C. Patient Services programs and research into a cause and cure.
“Come out for a family fun event featuring great prizes, food and more,” said Darcie Nolan, the mid-Island coordinator in a news release.
“If you’ve never participated before, make 2014 your year. Registration is free!”
In 2013 alone Patient Services dealt with 1,671 requests for assistive medical equipment, 248 trips to ALS medical appointments, had 44 support groups and sent 29 kids affected by ALS to Camp Alohi Lani among many other services.
This would not be possible without the money raised from the walks like this one, Nolan said.
Registration starts at 9 a.m., Sunday, June 8 in the cenotaph square behind the Parksville Civic and Technology centre, with the walk kicking off at 10 a.m. Visit www.walkforals.ca/bc to register or donate.
