Artist Diane Moran has partnered with the Qualicum Beach Rotary Club and Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Institute (MABRI) for a youth exhibition of fine art and literary art created by students in Grade 6 to Grade 12.

The exhibition, which will run May 1 to May 13, is open to all students registered in School District 69 and to students residing in the communities served by SD69 who are registered in a Home Learning Program, according to a news release.

Work will be on display at MLA Adam Walker’s office and online at https://mindfulmay.artistquarter.com/. All submissions will be featured in the exhibition.

The exhibition takes place during BC Youth Week and National Mental Health Week, so “The ART of Nurturing Nature” was chosen as the topic.

“We encourage students to explore what Nurturing Nature means to them in their own lives and in their own language,” the release said. “Students will draw inspiration from whatever Nurturing Nature means to them, and perhaps even what it means for humans to Nurturing Nature. We believe the resulting exhibition will be a great success and create powerful conversations and thought-provoking art around the subject.”

Below are some potential interpretations of the theme:

-Who benefits from Nurturing Nature?

-Who needs to Nurture Nature?

-What does Nurturing Nature look like?

-What does Nurturing Nature Feel like or sound like?

-What can Nurturing Nature offer to you?

-What can Nurturing Nature offer to others?

-What can Nurturing Nature change or fix?

-What could happen if we don’t Nurture Nature?

Artists are encouraged to come up with their own interpretations as well.

The deadline to submit has been extended to April 5.

The exhibition opens to the public May 1, hours to be determined by Walker’s office.

An official opening and artist reception will be held May 6 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and awards will be presented.
