Parksville Ballet School students who have been dancing up a storm at regional competitions are holding a fundraising show this weekend.

At the North Island Festival of Performing Arts in Courtenay 16 dancers won bursaries, Rachel Schilberg and Ali Jenkins won the “most entertaining” award for their duet and Bronwen Luck won the chance to attend the Performing Arts BC festival, or provincial championships in Kamloops in June.

At the recent Upper Island Festival in Nanaimo seven students won bursaries and Sophie Carl won the chance to go to provincials.

Over 32,000 young musicians, dancers and dramatic artists go through the Performing Arts BC regional festivals each year.

Some of the award winning soloists from the school are joining local vocalists and performers from the Qualicum School of Ballet for a big show tomorrow (May 14).

The schools are coming together to help the family of one of their dancers. All of the money raised will go to help the Schilberg family with with the medical costs and travel for their son Liam’s epilepsy and to raise awareness of the misunderstood disorder.

The show, called Spring Serenade, will start at 7 p.m., May 14, in the Ballenas High School theatre.
