Juno nominee Suzie Ungerleider will perform in Qualicum Beach on June 14.

The artist formally known as 'Oh Susanna' returns to Vancouver Island on June 14.

Suzie Ungerleider, now performing under her own name, will appear at the Rotary House (211 Fern Rd.) in Qualicum Beach, according to a news release.

The concert is part of the ongoing season of music presented by the Oceanside Folk, Roots and Blues Club.

Ungerleider adopted the Oh Susanna name and persona as an onstage expression of her theatrical leanings in 1996.

At the time the name help place her within a period and geography that served her music. Complete with a new name, an attitude for old blues and an even older Stella guitar, Ungerleider sang and played, criss-crossing North America, earning accolades along the way including a Genie Award, three Juno nominations and a handful of Canadian Folk Music Awards and nominations.

When asked why she had reverted to her own name she replied,

“It was time to leave the persona behind...it wasn't matching the music or personality. I needed to get closer to who I am without theatrical devices," she said, when asked why she reverted to her own name.

It was difficult to re-brand from a recognizable name, and that is an ongoing process.

“The songs and stories are still there, like old field recordings, except that now they are more...me,” said Ungerleider.

Tickets are $37. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.
