The ECHO Players will perform A Visit from St. Nicholas at the Village Theatre in Qualicum Beach this holiday season, starting Dec. 8 and running through Dec. 27.

ECHO Players have re-imagined the famous Christmas poem, more commonly known as The Night Before Christmas, for the stage.

The play, directed by Mari Lyn Kelly, is set Christmas Eve 1822, but Clement Clark Moore’s New York City house is not as quiet as a mouse.

Moore decides to burn his poem, rather than become known as a poet for children, according to a preview on ECHO Players’ website.

Cousin Harriet enlists the children’s memory in hopes of rewriting the poem and having it published for all young people to enjoy.

“Two hundred years after this true event this magical poem is still popular and has influenced the traditions of Christmas as we know them today,” the preview reads.

The story takes some surprising turns as their tangled relationships unfold.

“The true story of a poem resurrected from the ashes, written by Lowell Swortzel, entertains today’s audiences with an amazing cast, meticulously directed by Mari Lynn Kelly, no small feat with two alternating casts of energetic children to manage,” reads a news release by ECHO Players.

Tickets (selling quickly) are between $10 and $25 and available online at www.echoplayers.com or call 250-752-3522.
