Country fans can start getting excited about this summer, when the first annual Country Music Festival takes place at the Coombs Rodeo Grounds.

“I thought since I want it so badly maybe I should just go out there and make it happen,” said organizer Angie Harriott.

Harriott has already booked six groups for the event slated to happen August 16 and 17, including the headliner David James and Big River, who’s Johnny Cash show has been performed to sold out audiences across Canada.

The event will take place Friday evening the 16, all day Saturday, the 17 and there will be a dance that evening.

“We’re looking for a real country hoedown, so it’s going to be country weekend.”

Harriott is currently looking for young country music performers to play on the secondary stage as well as open stage performers to play between acts.

She’s also looking for food vendors and sponsors of the event. A website will be up and running soon.
