ECHO Players in Qualicum Beach has presented a $1,000 scholarship to Lyra Sales.

Sales has appeared in six ECHO main stage productions over the past six years — her first was at age eight, as well as two musicals with the Qualicum Beach School of Dance (QBSD), according to a news release.

She has also formally studied a variety of dance forms, including ballet, tap, contemporary, modern and jazz with QBSD, Innovate Dance Arts and the Colette Shilberg Ballet School.

Sales has taken both piano and voice lessons with Patricia Plumley and recently engaged in writing, directing and choreography.

“She is the ultimate ‘triple threat’ (acting, singing, dancing) and has been described as a hardworking, determined and graceful performer…a dream to work with,” the release read. “We are confident that Lyra will continue to excel and excite in whatever she chooses to do with her incredible talent and willing personality.”

Sales said she plans to put the scholarship money towards attending a musical theatre intensive next summer and taking masterclasses with Broadway professionals during the school year.

She also looks forward to taking part in QBSD’s production of Beauty and the Beast in May 2023
