Parksville Beach Festival returns July 14 to Aug. 21 after two years off. Here is a list of planned events:

Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Opening Weekend

July 15 to July 17

The festival kicks off with the Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Competition. Opening weekend is July 15, 16 and 17, with the sculpture exhibition open until Aug. 21. The event features a 30-hour competition between 27 international master sculptors. They will begin on July 14 by pounding sand to create the sculpting base that is so essential to a successful sculpture. Public entry opens July 15 at 2 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting just outside the sculpting zone gates.

Sculpting is complete by 2:45 p.m. on July 17, at which time the judges will begin their work. An awards ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m. at the sculpting zone.

The exhibition will remain open 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily until Aug. 21. Admission is by suggested donation of $5 per person. The sculpting theme for 2022 is ‘The Roaring 20s’, so each sculptor will consider this while designing and sculpting.
