The Old School House (TOSH) Arts Centre in Qualicum Beach has made the difficult decision to cancel its Sept. 17 fundraising bash due to low ticket sales.

The event was planned as the launch of a multi-year capital campaign to support the arts centre (122 Fern Rd. W), according to a news release by TOSH.

“With the challenging past few years, funds are needed to maintain all ongoing programming and operations at TOSH,” the release read.

TOSH will continue with its fundraising campaign, including a silent auction in the coming weeks.

The arts centre will celebrate its 35th anniversary next year.

“Over this time, TOSH has provided support and space for a vibrant arts community and is a crucial part of the cultural and geographic landscape of Qualicum Beach,” the release read. “In order to maintain this cultural centre, we need support.”

Funds are needed to make essential updates to arts centre’s classroom, as well as accessibility updates and the development of program initiatives to ensure TOSH remains a creative resource for the community.

New programs include the Central Island Digital Creation Hub, now being installed, with a tech coach beginning in October, the Sue Clark Community Space, open to the community to use as a flex space, and the vision to create an “Art Resource Library.”

TOSH staff has planned multiple community events for the coming year, including a silent art and wine auction.

“As a supporter of the arts, please join us and help us to achieve our vision for TOSH,” the release read. “We are extremely grateful to our community for their commitment to the arts.”
