The Sweet Adelines City of Gardens Chorus will be presenting a spirited performance this Sunday afternoon at Nanoose Place.

There will be some exceptional singing at Nanoose Place on Sunday June 3.

The City of Gardens Chorus an advanced level, four-part harmony Sweet Adelines chorus is presenting A Cappella Afternoon, a spectacular show of exquisite a cappella harmony, stunning choreography and dazzling costumes.

Approximately 75 women make up the award-winning chorus, which includes members who travel from Qualicum Beach and Parksville to weekly rehearsals in Langford.

Local member Fran Errington, who has been singing with the group for about eight years, said every three years they do a show at Nanoose Place for their fans in District 69. The chorus usually performs in Victoria but competes in other cities.

Last year the group came in second at regionals in Calgary.

Errington said that in Calgary they earned a berth into an international competition being held in Denver, Colorado where they will compete against top choruses from all over North America.

“We never thought we would go to Denver.  We were blown away because it is against the best in the world.”

The City of Gardens Chorus will be competing on the international stage on Nov. 1 where they will have six minutes to sing a ballad and a fast tune.

Errington said there are 23,000 singers from around the world who are part of the Sweet Adelines organization which promotes education and performing.

“We get coaches from around the world and go to workshops throughout the year,” stated Errington, who added their fundraising efforts go towards paying for their ongoing training.

She said their chorus also has choreography and stunning costumes and the concert on Sunday will include a wide range of songs including Mama Mia, Big Yellow Taxi, Fame and several Beatles songs.

“We have lots of bling … there’s sequins and hologram tops. Part of our show is rock n roll so we have hippy dippy costumes.”

Tickets are $20 and include refreshments. For tickets and information call Suzanne at 250-954-0450. The show Sunday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at Nanoose Place promises to deliver a spirited performance.
