Jilli Martini

Island singer to open show at MAC

Comox Valley woman prepared a mix of acoustic covers for Oct. 25 concert

This Saturday, Comox Valley singer Jilli Martini will open the night for the Ontario-based Lynn Jackson at the Macmillan Arts Centre.

“I’m really looking forward to this show and it will be an honour and so much fun to open for Lynn,” said Martini.

A relative newcomer to the scene, Martini (aka Jillian Gathright) is already recognized for her ability to perform a broad range of styles and genres. Her versatility as a vocalist and engagement with the audience has made her a local favourite. She regularly plays with the Jilli Martini Band, a high energy rock band, but the singer plans to turn things down a bit for this show. Martini will be joined by guitarist Alan Jossul to perform a set of acoustic covers ranging in styles from country to blues and jazz. Martini also plans to debut at least one of her own original arrangements.

“I welcome the chance to slow things down and play an intimate gig for attentive listeners,” she said.

Headliner Jackson, a folk singer/songwriter, has been performing for 15 years. Her performance at the MAC is part of her tour to promote her newest album The Acoustic Sessions.

“I love playing places I’ve never been,” Jackson said on a news release from the MAC.

Jackson’s uses her “whiskey and honey” voice to spinning tales about love, loss and everyday people.   The concert will be at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25, with doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and $12 for OCAC Members, and are available at the MAC.
