A belated 85th birthday tribute to legendary jazz pianist and composer Horace Silver is planned for The Old School House (TOSH) in QB.

A belated (Sept. 2) 85th birthday tribute to legendary jazz pianist and composer Horace Silver is planned for The Old School House (TOSH) in Qualicum Beach this Sunday.

An entire afternoon will be devoted to the sumptuous spectrum of Silver’s wonderful tunes. The afternoon will feature Vancouver Jazz flutist and saxophonist Tom Keenlyside, with Ron Hadley on piano, Joey Smith on bass and  Buff Allen on drums.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Keenlyside took up the trumpet in 1962 at the age of 12, and played in various rhythm and blues bands throughout the 1960s. He played is first “gig” for money in 1964.
