To further celebrate legendary musician Bob Dylan’s recent 81st birthday, some Vancouver Island musicians will pay tribute to his music.
Comox Valley musician and promoter Doug Cox, along with Duncan’s Genevieve Charbonneau and Jack Connolly, and Qualicum’s Mick Sherlock, will perform The Unexpected Dylan on June 3 at the Qualicum Beach Community Hall, according to a news release by the Oceanside Folk/Roots Club.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity of tackling some of the great songs from Dylan’s catalogue with my musical friends,” Cox said.
The concert will cover some of Dylan’s lesser known songs, ranging from his early 1960s work through to some of his latest. Dylan turned 81 on May 24.

“As performers, we run the gambit from young to older, with me being the oldest. So, I’ll be singing the older material and I’ll leave the newer songs to the younger folk,” said Sherlock.
Known as one of the first artists to blend music and poetry, Dylan received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016.
