The Oceanside Classical Concerts Society (OCCS) Music Scholarship has been awarded to Caiden Meyer.
The annual scholarship of $2,500 is dedicated to fostering the future of all forms of music by supporting mid-Island aspiring musicians, according to a news release by OCCS.
Meyer, a 2022 graduate of Alberni District Secondary School, began his studies in the Faculty of Music at the University of Victoria in September. A gifted musician who plays saxophone, flute and piccolo, Meyer has plans to pursue a career as a music educator to help kindle the musical talents of the next generation.
“My first semester was definitely a huge change, but it has been amazing,” Meyer said after finishing his first term. “I have had many performing opportunities and have met so many amazing musicians. I would not have been able to do this without the help of this scholarship and I am so grateful.”
Young musicians in the area are encouraged to apply for the 2023 OCCS Music Scholarship. Information and an application form is available on the society’s website at OceansideClassicalConcerts.ca.
Oceanside Classical Concerts presents an annual series of classical performances by internationally acclaimed performers at Knox United Church in Parksville.
