The Rock the Park Music Festival will return to Parksville next summer, bigger and better than ever.

Parksville Beach Festival Society has announced a preliminary lineup for the bands appearing in the event, set for Aug. 11 to Aug. 13.

This year’s roster will include Vancouver Island local favourites, as well as world-class tribute bands, according to Lloyd Derry, entertainment director and festival organizer. Most of the acts will be new to Rock the Park, with one band, Eagle Eyes, returning for an encore due to the overwhelming response received, Derry said.

“They were just so good and we had so many compliments,” he said. “A lot of people said, ‘bring this one back, bring that one back’. You need to keep it different, but these guys were just so tremendous.”

The lineup so far includes, Nearly Neil – Bobby Bruce & the Solitary Band, Arrival - Canada’s Tribute to ABBA, Centrefield - the essential John Fogerty/CCR Tribute, World Elvis Champion Darren Lee & the Memphis Flash, Night Moves - The Ultimate Tribute to Bob Seger, the Joe Cocker Experience, Eagle Eyes and Supernatural - A Tribute to the music of Santana.

Derry said he plans to add a few more Island-based acts to the line-up between now and the summer.

There will be a ‘Christmas Blitz’ ticket sale campaign, which runs from Dec. 1 to Dec 23.

Tickets will be available at the McMillan Arts Centre (MAC) in Parksville and the Parksville Beach Festival Society website, starting Dec. 1.

After the Christmas Blitz, the tickets will not be on sale again until April 1, according to Derry.

It’s looking like the outdoor theatre in Parksville Community Park will have a busy schedule leading up to the festival, as many top Vancouver Island bands, have already been booked, Derry said.

He added there are also plans for a symphony orchestra to play on the stage.
