Pianist Michael Kim to play classical concert in Parksville

Dr. Michael Kim, a veteran of the international concert circuit with a wide-ranging repertoire, will play at Knox United Church in Parksville on Nov. 26, in the second concert of the Oceanside Classical Music Concerts season.

Kim has performed as a soloist with orchestras around the world, including the Boston and Cincinnati Pops, Orchestra London and symphonies across Canada and the U.S., according to a news release from the Oceanside Classical Concerts Society (OCCS).

He has also toured extensively as a solo recitalist throughout Canada, the U.S., the U.K., and South Korea. As a chamber musician, he performs frequently with his wife, pianist Dr. Kyung Kim and sister, violinist Helen Kim.

Michael has also collaborated with notable trios and quartets and played frequently in summer festivals across North America.

An artistic scholar, he received his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the Juilliard School. He was formerly Director of the School of Music at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, served as Dean of Music and Vice-President, External at Brandon University and is currently Dean of the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Subscriptions are still available for the remainder of the season at $100 (pro-rated for the last four concerts). They can be purchased at the McMillan Arts Centre (133 McMillan St.) in Parksville.
