Governor General David Johnston announced Monday, Dec. 29 the names of 90 new appointments to the Order of Canada.

Amongst Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor and retired Supreme Court of Canada justice Marie Deschamps, Qualicum Beach's very own Phil Dwyer made the list of distinguished Canadians.

Dwyer is recognized for his contributions to jazz as a performer, composer and producer, and for increasing access to music education in his community.

The Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours, was established in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Over the last 45 years, more than 6 000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.
