Parksville Qualicum Beach’s own Paul Laine will be performing at VIEX in Nanaimo for his first concert in Canada in over two decades. The international star has been splitting his time between this area and the United States for many years.

A band dedicated to providing an alternative to the usual fare of musical mediocrity is playing roots, rock and reggae at the French Creek Marine Pub Aug. 8.

Theo Massop and his band BoodAbooM are based in Nanaimo and will be performing original material from Massop’s albums along with renditions of songs by Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Steve Earle,  Bob Marley and more. The trio also plays classic blues and current hits from bands like The Black Keys, Cage the Elephant and White Stripes.

Massop’s own songs have been aired and sold around the world including his current album with BoodAbooM. Often compared to John Hiatt in his writing style and approach by musical critics, his songs are about life, love and striving to maintain a positive attitude in a troubled world.

Appearing with Theo will be bassist Marisha Devoin, a VIU jazz course graduate who has performed around the world, and the seasoned drummer Rich Bazille. There is no cover charge for this show which starts at 8:30. For more information or video links go to www.boodaboom.com or call the French Creek Marine Pub at 250-248-3713.
