ECHO Players' Teen Musical Theatre will present Oklahoma! at the Village Theatre in Qualicum Beach starting Aug. 16.
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theatre, according to a news release by ECHO Players.
"In a western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colourful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story," the release said.
Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.
This classic musical is suitable for all ages and runs at the Village Theatre (110 Second Ave W) on Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 18 at 2 p.m.
