The 16-member Oceanside Big Band will perform the inaugural Twilight Concert on Saturday, June 29, presented by the St. Andrews Lodge Historical and Cultural Society.

The concert will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in waterfront Saahtlam Park, adjacent to St. Andrews Lodge at 3319 Island Hwy West, according to a news release by the society.

The band was formed in October 2022 by veteran educators Dave Fullerton and Jim Thompson, whose combined experience directing high school music programs in B.C. spans more than 50 years.

The band’s membership is comprised of many past music educators now living on the Island, as well as many local musicians who are members of the rich talent pool in the community.

Dave Fullerton is the band director.  For more than 50 years his high school ensembles have received acclaim at local, national and international jazz festivals.

They have performed across Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Fullerton is recipient of MusicFest Canada’s annual award to a music educator. Now retired, Fullerton is still in demand as a clinician for both jazz bands and wind ensembles.

The Oceanside Big Band will present a cornucopia of music, from the 1930s and 1940s to works from today’s top arrangers.

The venue is wheelchair accessible and there is designated accessible parking at the entrance to the park.

Admission is by donation with a suggested minimum of $10 per person or $25 per family. Those planning to attend should bring their own chairs, a blanket and their dancing shoes!
