Michigan Curve brings their in-your-face blues to the Shady Rest Pub.

A tough, danceable blues band will rock the Shady Rest Pub this weekend, as Michigan Curve heads down from Victoria for a performance.

“We’re kind of in-your-face and basically we mean it,” said lead vocalist and rhythm and slide guitar player with the group Mike Nicolson.

The group plays about 30 per cent originals and some personal, interesting standards for the remainder. Nicholson, originally from Scotland, said he’s been playing the guitar since just after the invention of the wheel and has been obsessed with blues ever since.

The group has some folk elements added into their music occasionally, but the rest of the time they play various styles of blues, he said.

“We’ll play Chicago-style for a couple of numbers and then New Orleans or West Coast, so we’re not immersed completely in one style of blues.”

The other three members of the group: Mr. Clements, Ken Doskoch, and Andre Kaufman play the bass, drums, and lead guitar respectively and Kaufman also plays the saxophone.

Although they’ve played all over the Island, this will be the group’s first performance in Oceanside.
